Tinnitus Management

Description: Tinnitus is a common condition affecting over 50 million people in the United States alone. Although there is currently no cure for tinnitus, many treatment options exist. Treatments involving therapy with counseling and the use of sound-generating devices (tinnitus instruments) have been found effective in helping individuals manage their symptoms. Since tinnitus is generally associated with hearing loss, hearing-aid use itself has been a very effective part of tinnitus-management programs. This course will review the demographics of the tinnitus-patient population, the available treatment options and includes discussions of data collected from individuals with tinnitus who are using hearing aids and how hearing aids are used in tinnitus management. The course will also outline some of the tinnitus-treatment options within an Audiology practice.
