What are the Guidelines for Sonic Bliss IIC?

Question

Bliss100 has an IIC available? Are there any guidelines I should follow if I am considering this for my patient?

Answer

There are a couple of things you should consider before recommending an IIC for your patient. First, does your patient have good dexterity? The IIC is the smallest custom instrument, is very small and uses a size 10 battery. Their hearing loss should be within the fitting range and the ear canal needs to be a certain size to accommodate the deep fitting IIC.

So I am ready to take an impression, what do I need to know?

It’s easy taking an impression for a Sonic instrument.  The rules haven’t changed from when we first opened our doors – we ask for 5mm beyond the 2nd bend with the entire helix and concha bowl filled.  We also have a great tool that you can use when measuring that earmold impression to ensure the length, width and height will be appropriate.

You mentioned the fitting range of the IIC; where should the patient’s thresholds be to ensure an appropriate fit?

You can expect to fit patients with hearing thresholds down to 75-80 dB HL.
