Why do I get the self check failure indicator when the hearing aid is working properly?

The goal of the Destiny 1600 Self Check feature is to complete a diagnostic evaluation of hearing aid function. It checks the circuit, the microphone or microphones (if directional) and the receiver. Self Check ensures that these components are performing optimally in each device when performed in a consistent manner. False positive reports of poor performance will result due to inconsistent procedures used during the baseline and test phases. For example, if the baseline was obtained under one condition, such as in the ear, the diagnostic will fail if it is obtained under another condition, such as on a table. The result will be either the voice or tonal indicator for Make Appointment. We made this a sensitive tool so that it can pick up on details as subtle as a thin film of wax that can affect its performance. That sensitivity can raise the possibility of false positive test outcomes, so careful attention to measurement procedures can help reduce these false positives.
