This course will provide an overview of the techniques used to monitor hearing and facial nerve during vestibular schwannoma surgeries. Particular attention will be paid to monitoring and outcomes for hearing preservation surgeries.

Real-ear measures are used to reach our goal of helping patients with hearing loss improve their hearing. This course will discuss how real-ear measures are used to verify hearing aid fittings or other amplification devices. It is our professional and ethical responsibility to perform the standard practices with each patient in hopes that it will lead to maximizing the benefit of the hearing aids/devices as part of the overall treatment plan for the patient’s hearing loss.

This course reviews the common symptoms and findings associated with vestibular schwannoma, as well as workup and differential diagnosis for lesions of the cerebellopontine angle. A discussion of the natural history of vestibular schwannoma and general current paradigms for treatment are included.

Roger microphones and receivers are the key components of an adaptive remote microphone system. This session educates attendees about two new receivers and one new microphone that help children with hearing loss and normal hearing in educational environments.

This course begins by providing estimates of the prevalence of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and ASD and hearing loss as well as strategies to obtain a valid hearing test from children with this disorder. The remainder of the course focuses on assessing and managing common auditory difficulties faced by children with ASD and normal hearing sensitivity. Strategies to mitigate listening difficulties include school accommodations, remote-microphone technology, and auditory training.

This course is the first in a 3-part series hosted by presenters from Michigan Medicine detailing the evaluation and management of vestibular schwannomas. In this course, we will present an overview of pre-operative diagnostic evaluations performed by audiologists to evaluate the status of auditory, vestibular and facial nerve function in patients with vestibular schwannomas.

The topic of verification and validation can be a bit overwhelming and often confusing. This course is designed to teach the learner simple, but effective, means to quickly verify hearing aid fittings within the initial fitting appointment.

This course will look at the history and purpose of the adaptation manager and its use in modern hearing aids for increasing first fit acceptance. Sonic’s EXPRESSfit Pro software creates an interface that implements this feature in a way that is easy to use and focuses on not only comfort but also appropriate amplification based on target.

In the everyday practice of fitting hearing aids, we develop many beliefs, about both the technology and the fitting procedures. Some of these beliefs are based on things we think we have read, things we have heard from a rep, things from our fitting experiences, or things we just believe to be true because we always have. But for most of us, not all of them really are true. This presentation will reveal some of the most common misconceptions related to the fitting and operation of hearing aids.
