Course Abstract

DeafBlindness is an overwhelming word, and implies many things. Challenges are placed on parents and professionals when faced with the rarity and complex needs of a multiply sensory deprived child. This course seeks to offer an explanation of how multiple sensory deficits can educationally affect a student, and general guidelines from a parent's perspective regarding the education of a deaf blind child.

Natasha McDougald

South Florida Area Manager

Natasha McDougald is an Area Manager for South Florida, and is just proud to be a mom to two wonderful little girls;one of whom is deafblind with bilateral cochlear implants.   Prior to that role, Natasha was a Systems Engineer for a large computer company in the Silicon Valley of California speaking to executives about technology.  She was delighted to be able to translate those hard won business skills for the express purpose of advocating for her daughter and other families affected by deaf blindness.  Natasha has spoken to audiences both in Canada and the United States about Rosie’s story, and has kept busy being a chairperson for Comic Vision with the Foundation Fighting Blindness, a cochlear implant mentor, a champion for the Alberta Children’s Hospital, treasurer for the Society for the Educational Advancement of the Hearing Impaired, speaking for various special needs, educational and medical organizations and sometimes, just sometimes, sneaking off to a quiet corner to read.  Natasha is married to a wonderful man, has two beautiful girls, would like an ugly little pug and lives in Tampa, Florida.  Natasha is a presenter employed by Cochlear Americas.
