Preview Exam Course Abstract It is critical that children have good auditory access to facilitate auditory brain development and to enable them to use audition to learn language. This course will assist clinicians in determining if technology is providing optimal auditory access. Search Course Listings Browse Course Topics Course Learning Outcomes Preview Exam Participants will be able to identify the acoustic requirements for auditory access in different situations, e.g. classroom, home, playground, etc.Participants will be able to describe strategies designed to identify if auditory access is being obtained in all environments through a knowledge of signal-to-noise ratio, background noise and reverberation.Participants will be able to explain techniques for repairing poor acoustic accessibility in the child's primary amplification (e.g. hearing aids and cochlear implants) and also in the environment. She has been a pediatric audiologist for more than 40 years. Dr Madell is a certified audiologist, speech-language pathologist, LSLS and auditory verbal therapist. Dr Madell’s clinical and research interests have been in the area of evaluation of hearing in infants and young children, management of hearing loss in children with severe and profound hearing loss, selection and management of amplification including cochlear implants and FM systems, assessment of auditory function, and evaluation and management of auditory processing disorders.
