Course Abstract

This presentation will compare and contrast two common prescriptive methods of hearing aid amplification. Included will be a discussion of the expected impacts of each prescription's recommendations on speech intelligibility and loudness for both adults and children.

Earl Johnson, PhD, AuD

audiologist at the Mountain Home, TN Veterans Health Administration Medical Center and an Assistant Professor at East Tennessee State University

Earl Johnson, AuD, PhD is an advanced practice audiologist for the U.S.A. Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) in Mountain Home, Tennessee.   He also participates in the Doctorate of Audiology curriculum instruction at East Tennessee State University as an Assistant Professor.  Much of Dr. Johnson’s research and training has been focused on the efficacy and effectiveness of hearing aid product features and signal processing as well as hearing aid dispensing and practicing trends.  Most recently his research program has emphasized the comparative study of validated prescriptive methods for assigning parameters of amplification to adults and children based on audiometric assessment data.
