This 3-part course series covers introductory, intermediate and advanced topics in intraoperative neurophysiologic monitoring for audiologists, from an overview of operating room considerations, to cranial nerve monitoring, to multi-modality monitoring for complex cases. It is designed for audiologists who are currently providing intraoperative monitoring services, as well as for audiologists and students who wish to learn more about this exciting area of practice.

This course provides an overview of the most common cranial nerve monitoring applications in the operating room. Techniques for recording, interpreting, and optimizing cranial nerve activity and function in the operating room will be addressed. This is the second webinar in a 3-part series on Intraoperative Neurophysiologic Monitoring, that will be taking place on AudiologyOnline in June 2017.

This course will cover an introduction to pharmacology, including pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamics basic principles. The course will also include information on the mechanisms of action behind known/suspected ototoxic agents.

This course will present the benefits of hearing preservation in adult cochlear implant patients using a standard length cochlear implant electrode array. The presenter will discuss his experience using standard length cochlear implant electrodes for hearing preservation as well as other centers’ experience. Research regarding future implications of hearing preservation in cochlear implantation will be reviewed.

Audiologists offer unique skills and expertise in the monitoring of patients exposed to ototoxic and/or vestibulotoxic medications and treatments. This course will discuss what role the Audiologist should play in a multi-disciplinary team and the challenges to creating such a team. In addition, the particular challenges inherent to monitoring a pediatric patient will be investigated.
