Do I have to be a member of ASHA or AAA to have CEUs listed in their respective registries? - Return to Top
AAA (American Academy of Audiology)
Yes, you need to be a member of the Academy or register for the CE Registry as a non-member in order for CEUs to be posted to your record. All AAA members are AAA CE Registry members. To join the Academy, call 1-800-222-2336. If you are a member, you can view your CEUs online anytime from your Academy member profile page.
ASHA (American Speech Language Hearing Association)
No, however, if you would like to be enrolled in the ASHA CEU Registry Database you must pay the required annual fee directly to ASHA. Contact ASHA at 1-800-498-2071.
Audiology Online will not verify whether or not you are currently enrolled as a member of AAA or in the ASHA CEU Registry or the number of CEUs recorded on your AAA or ASHA registry transcript. Audiology Online maintains a transcript of CE activities obtained on Audiology Online for you. On the homepage, click on "Start e-Learning Here!" button and then click on the "Get Your CE Transcript" link. Please note that this is not an AAA/ASHA registry transcript or IHS Certificate of Completion.
What is the difference between CEUs and the length of a course (course hours)? How does this relate to CEEs? - Return to Top
Course length is reported differently by AAA/ASHA/CASLPA/IHS. AAA/ASHA use the internationally recognized Continuing Education Unit (CEU) as the standard unit of measuring participation in a continuing education course. One (1.0) CEU is defined as 10 hours of participation in coursework. Therefore, a single hour of participation in a course is equal to 0.1 CEUs. CASLPA's Continuing Education Equivalent (CEE) is based on clock hours so a 1 hour course is equal to 1 CEE. IHS keeps track of clock hours directly. Therefore, a course that is 2 hours in length listed on Audiology Online would be listed for 0.2 CEUs with AAA/ASHA, 2 Hours (CEEs) with CASLPA and 2 Hours with IHS.
I was viewing my Audiology Online e-Learning transcript and I saw two messages "Reported to AAA and/or ASHA" and "No reporting information is available". What do these messages mean? - Return to Top
You must verify that your Profile information at Audiology Online (AO) is up-to-date and indicate your reporting preferences prior to completing a CE test to ensure that your CEU credits are reported properly to the ASHA and AAA CE registries. If your profile is not up-to-date, this would result either in failure of AO to report your CEUs, or reporting of inaccurate information to the AAA and/or ASHA CE Registries.
Remember that this reporting feature is only required if you are a member of the AAA and/or ASHA registries and would like for either of those two registries to maintain a record of your CEU courses. If you maintain your own CEU records or report them manually you may print out the CE Verification forms from your AO transcript as proof of CEU course completion.
Here are additional specific questions and answers about these two notices.
"Courses Reported to AAA and/or ASHA"
Why have my completed courses not been sent to the AAA or ASHA registry?
There is an approximate 30 to 60 day delay between when a course is completed and when a course is reported by AO to the AAA and ASHA CE registries, depending on the type of course, and the date it was completed.
For Live events, please allow 45 days following the event before contacting the AO CE Administrator using the contact form on our web site.
For Self –Study activities (text-based courses and recorded courses), please allow 45 days following the end of the calendar month during which the course was completed before contacting the AO CE Administrator using the contact form on our web site.
Why is my course shown as reported by AO, but it is not on the AAA or ASHA registry?
AO cannot verify information posted on your AAA or ASHA registry transcripts. You can verify that your coursework was reported to the AAA or ASHA registry by contacting AAA or ASHA two weeks after the reporting date listed on your Audiology Online transcript for a given course. If the AAA or ASHA registry indicates they have not received a reported course from AO, please contact the AO CE Administrator using the contact form on our web site.
"No Reporting Information Available"
Why have my completed courses not been sent to the AAA or ASHA registry?

For Live events, please allow 45 days following the event before contacting the AO ASHA CE Administrator using the contact form on our web site.
