Through a series of patient-oriented studies and clinical implementation of research results, many positive outcomes were shown for adults with various degrees of hearing loss. In this session the series of patient-oriented studies will be reviewed: (1) Initial study with 36 adults with moderate-profound hearing losses: (2) 1-year follow up study; (3) Clinical implementation study with 100 patients; and, (4) 36 adults using FM systems with in-the-ear hearing aids. The results of the studies demonstrate that successful use of FM use in adults is dependent on (a) development of individualized goals for FM use; and (b) provision of comprehensive counseling, coaching and instruction. The presentation will focus on how to set individualized goals and the use of clinically-feasible counseling, coaching and instruction strategies, particularly those that are applicable to older individuals.
