The class will review selection and use of appropriate technology (hearing aids, cochlear implants, and FM systems). Using speech perception information to monitor progress and evaluate equipment will be reviewed. The importance of this information for development of language will be discussed. Suggestions for maximizing performance by both professionals and parents will be reviewed.

Co-Director, Cochlear Implant Center
Dr. Madell is Director of the Hearing and Learning Center and co-director of the Beth Israel New York Eye and Ear Cochlear Implant Center. She is Professor, Clinical Otolaryngology, Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr Madell received her Masters and Doctoral degrees from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She is a certified audiologist, speech-language pathologist and auditory verbal therapist. Dr Madells clinical and research interests have been in the area of evaluation of hearing in infants and young children, management of hearing loss in children with severe and profound hearing loss, selection and management of amplification including cochlear implants and FM systems, assessment of auditory function, and evaluation and management of auditory processing disorders. Dr Madell has published 2 books, 17 book chapters, and numerous journal articles. She is working on a 3rd book on Pediatric Audiology.
