This course will identify a number of behavioral concepts that the early interventionist will encounter in working with young children with hearing loss. The crucial role that language plays in influencing the development of appropriate behavior will be explored. Case scenarios will illustrate particular behavior challenges and strategies for using language to progress through them. An emphasis on creating positive self-image throughout the early years will be made.

Course Objectives

Participants will be able to identify concepts that define behaviors prevalent in the early years.
Participants will be able to sequence the development of a particular behavioral concept as evidenced by increasing linguistic sophistication.
Participants will be able to assign language to particular strategies for effective intervention based on a continuum of behavior development.
