Ready, Set, Go! Setting the Early Intervention Course for Infants with Hearing Loss (HOPE)

This online course will provide information about the pivotal role of auditory brain growth in the development of spoken communication, reading and academic skills in children with all degrees of hearing loss. Neurological maturation and neural plasticity of the auditory system will be discussed. Current best practice protocols and standards will be outlined to maximize auditory brain development from an audiological and early interventionist perspective. The importance a team approach to the management of a child’s hearing loss will be detailed.

  • Participants will be able to describe auditory brain development as the foundation for listening, language and literacy.

  • Participants will be able to detail instructional strategies for facilitating listening in infants and children.

  • Participants will be able to discuss the importance of a team approach between audiologists and early interventionists to support children and families to develop listening and spoken language.
