The Colorado Cochlear Implant Consortium and the Colorado Department of Education co-sponsored a workshop In December 2002 to provide updated training for school audiologists regarding the cochlear implant process. This training was essential in supporting Colorado school audiologists in their role as the primary education contact and liaison between implant centers and school programs. The 1.5 day workshop focused on pre-implantation considerations, device issues, and post-implantation procedures and also included hands-on training with the devices. Speakers included Dr. Pat Chute from Mercy College, New York, and Dr. Allison Sedey from the University of Colorado. The success of the workshop was enhanced by the participation of all implant centers in Colorado as well as all cochlear implant manufacturers. These individuals are also members of the Colorado Cochlear Implant Consortium which was established in 1995 to promote communication, education, and training related to cochlear implantation with children.
