Flip is the newest hearing device added to the Sonic product portfolio

New Jersey—
Sonic is introducing the company's newest product, the Flip miniature receiver-in-the-canal (miniRIC), scheduled for release on December 19, 2011. Flip employs a new Sonic Speech Variable Processing platform to process sound quickly and preserve the naturalness of sound along with the subtle nuances of speech. The product also features Speech Priority Noise Reduction, the next generation in Sonic noise reduction algorithms, to emphasize speech understanding in noise.

"Our new Speech Priority Noise Reduction works hand-in-hand with our new fast-acting Speech Variable Processing to provide excellent results for Flip hearing instrument wearers," said Sonic President and COO Joe Lugara. "With Flip, we also added an Impulse Noise Reduction feature to increase patient listening comfort by addressing those sudden loud sounds that patients really don't want to hear."

The Flip product gets its name from the unique way in which the whole side of the hearing instrument "flips" open as well as from the call to action for hearing care professionals and patients alike to "flip your expectations" about what a tiny hearing instrument like this can offer.

"Flip is so small, yet rich in mechanical and sound processing features," said Kathy Landon, Sonic vice president of Branding and Professional Services. "Even with its small size, Flip uses an easy-to-handle size 13 battery which provides better battery life, is much more convenient for patients with dexterity challenges, and is simple to access because of the flip open case."

In addition, Flip includes an easy-to-locate push button for changing programs and a large rotary volume control not found on products of this size. Flip is the only miniRIC available today with both a rotary volume control and a push button.

The compact Flip is also equipped with several wireless connectivity features including Binaural Coordination between devices, enhanced telephone operation and the streaming of audio from external sources via the SoundGate wireless link. The product has a two-microphone directional system, allowing for several directional options that help address unwanted sounds from the sides and behind the listener. In addition, Flip includes cutting-edge feedback cancellation with the new Adaptive Feedback Canceller.

Flip follows the new simple-to-understand Sonic brand architecture which categorizes products at levels of 100 through 20, with 100 as the highest-end technology and 20 as entry-level. Flip is available in levels 100, 80 and 60. It comes in four colors to match hair and skin tones and caters to a range of hearing losses from mild-to-moderate as well as to severe loss with the optional power speaker unit.
