Share:

Washington DC / October 15-17, 2015

WHAT: The Emerging Issues in Cochlear Implantation Symposium, CI 2015 DC, will be convened October 15-17, 2015. National and global leaders in the field of cochlear implants will come together to share research and best clinical practices on providing hearing restoration to deaf children and adults. Access and public policy concerns will be addressed. Attending scientists and clinicians provide cochlear implants to deaf individuals of all ages, transforming lives and restoring a human sense with this extraordinary medical intervention.

Six Emerging Issues will be explored in depth. Proposals for individual presentations on other aspects of cochlear implantation and related auditory prostheses are also being accepted.

The Emerging Issues are:

  • Auditory Brainstem Implants in Children
  • Expanded Indications
  • Literacy
  • Objective Measures
  • Connectivity to Other Technologies
  • Quality of Life and Cost Effectiveness

WHO:  The conference sponsor is American Cochlear Implant Alliance, a non-profit dedicated to improving access to cochlear implantation through research, advocacy and awareness.

WHY: Cochlear implants are underutilized and provided to only 5% of US adults and children who could benefit. Utilization rates are much higher in Western Europe.  The six emerging issues have the potential to expand access to this life-changing technology.

WHEN: October 15-17, 2015. Pre-conference activities will be held October 14 including ACI Alliance on the Hill at which ACI Alliance members will visit Congressional delegations.

WHERE: Omni Shoreham Hotel, 2500 Calvert Street, NW, Washington, DC
