Oticon Medical Symposium Presents Clinical Data on Benefits of Ponto Bone Anchored Hearing Solutions at OSSEO 2011

Somerset, NJ April 26 - Oticon Medical recently sponsored a symposium on the newest clinical data on bone anchored hearing solutions at the Third International Symposium on Bone Conduction Hearing - Craniofacial Osseointegration (OSSEO) in Sarasota, Florida. The multidisciplinary conference brought together an international delegation of more than 325 physicians, clinical audiologists and industry leaders in the ear and craniofacial surgical community. Conference participants attending the Oticon Medical Symposium explored findings from leading bone anchored clinics on the benefits of patient choice in bone anchored hearing solutions, clinical experience with pediatric populations and new technological developments in Oticon Medical's Ponto Pro system.

"The OSSEO conference presented a unique opportunity for Oticon Medical to showcase the first clinical data on the benefits provided by Oticon Medical's Ponto Pro sound processor," said Oticon Medical's US Subsidiary Manager Curt Gorman. "The findings from scientists representing leading bone anchored clinics around the world, including the Netherlands, United Kingdom, Denmark, Hong Kong and the U.S., represent an important step forward in the clinical evaluation of the audiological benefits of the Ponto Pro system for patients with conductive and mixed hearing losses and single-sided deafness."

Dr. Cor Cremers, recently retired Professor of Otology at the Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre, served as moderator for a distinguished group of presenters that included: Seilesh Babu, MD of Michigan Ear Institute, Arjan Bosman, PhD, Audiology, Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre, Becky Gladdis, Manchester Royal Infirmary, Dr. Jane Sebzda, Children's Hospital of Wisconsin and Ravi Sockalingam, Oticon Medical. Oticon Medical CEO Jes Olsen joined Gorman in welcoming symposium participants and provided an introduction to Oticon Medical and its patient-centered approach to bone anchored hearing solutions.

Other highlights of the Oticon Medical's participation in the three-day conference included a main session presentation led by Patrik Westerkull that looked at the Ponto system as an illustration of biomechanical and clinical considerations for bone conduction implant and abutment design and a series of hands-on workshops on the Ponto system conducted by Westerkull, Tove Rosenbom and Ravi Sockalingam
