Educational Audiology CEU Courses

Although many clinical audiologists have never worked in an educational environment, they are an essential component to the classroom success of many children who are d/Deaf or hard of hearing. This course works to dispel misconceptions regarding special education law and classroom-specific listening needs for these children, as well as highlight opportunities for communication and collaboration between the audiologic clinic and schools.

This presentation gives an overview of Auditory Processing Disorder (APD) in schools. Everything from red flags, referrals, and practical interventions will be discussed.

This 4-part webinar series is focused on wireless connectivity between the listener and the talker designed to improve communication. Guest editor, Dr. Linda Thibodeau along with a team of leading experts will present on select articles from a recent issue of the journal Seminars in Hearing (Issue 04 · Volume 41 · November 2020).

Remote learning for deaf and hard-of-hearing students during COVID resulted in both predictable and unpredictable challenges as well as some expected benefits. During this presentation, we will focus on communication access modifications in the use of remote microphone (RM) systems as well as other access accommodations.

Children with deafness and autism have complex needs that require strong collaboration from a multi-disciplinary team for successful interventions. Service providers may feel uncertain about ways to coordinate and set priorities for these children. This series will explore multidisciplinary perspectives on deafness when it coexists with autism in an effort to help hearing health professionals gain better knowledge of autism and help understand the value of cross-disciplinary collaboration. Multi-disciplinary perspectives will be offered to help professionals recognize the early signs of autism coexisting with deafness, learn strategies to target more effective evaluation and interventions, and improve services to the child and family. This series will provide resources and clinical examples of Music Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Early Intervention, and School-Age Communication interventions for this unique population.

Deafness and autism both affect communication, but deafness is frequently identified before autism. Learn to identify the differences in communication development when a dual diagnosis may exist, proper referral channels, and intervention strategies to promote listening and communication skills in the school-age child.

This course summarizes current evidence-based practice for audiologic management during the COVID-19 pandemic, with a focus on habits for appropriate infection prevention for in-person clinic visits. Amending barriers to communication for children with hearing impairment, including the impact of face masks, and considerations for assistive devices will also be addressed.

Having a child with a disability causes significant family stress. The course will help clinicians learn how to assist families in managing stress related to their journey in managing stress for children with hearing loss.

This course is intended for the clinical audiologist who would like to further their understanding of functional listening evaluations and how to implement these when needed to better serve their pediatric patients.

Educational audiology is a related service stated in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (special education law), but service provision varies, depending on the area of the country. This course will describe how clinical audiologists can support their patients and advocate for educational audiology services.
