Vestibular Issues And Balance Disorders CEU Courses

This course will discuss diagnostic criteria for vestibular migraines and cover the diagnosis, treatment, and management of vestibular migraines.

Meniere's Disease (MD) is one of the most intriguing and somewhat frustrating pathologies that, over the more than 150 years since its first description, has kept scientists and dedicated professionals busy searching for any development that would be helpful in curing affected patients. Histopathological studies have associated MD with the accumulation of endolymph in the cochlea and the vestibular organs. However, there are several comorbidities associated with MD, such as migraine, anxiety, autoimmune, and autoinflammatory disorders, which add more complexity to the phenotype. The goal of this lecture is to explain the approach to the diagnosis and treatment of MD, highlighting the importance of non-ablative therapy options and discussing treatment protocols after medical failure.

This course will briefly review the human balance system, common balance disorders and the aging process as related to balance. Complementary approaches to improving and maintaining balance will be reviewed.

This 5-part webinar series is focused on the growing evidence of the need for pediatric vestibular evaluation, as well as the availability of successful treatment options for children. Guest editors, Dr. Devin McCaslin and Dr. Jennifer Christy along with a team of leading experts will present on select articles from a recent issue of the journal Seminars in Hearing (Issue 03 · Volume 39 · 2018).

The purpose of this presentation is to provide an overview of how to perform vestibular tests in children, including which tests are recommended based on the child’s age and any modifications or considerations that can be made.

This course will provide information for the practicing clinician as well as researchers with regard to the anatomical and physiologic characteristics of oculomotor function. Additionally, this course will present study findings related to the application of oculomotor function testing as part of videonystagmography to the pediatric population.

This course will explore common pediatric neurologic diagnoses leading to vestibular related impairments. The course will also discuss considerations for testing and treatment of vestibular related impairments.

This course will cover considerations for developing a multidisciplinary pediatric balance center. Specifics related to the development of Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Multidisciplinary Pediatric Balance Center will be discussed.
