Reports To: Practice Administrator                                           

Positions Supervised: None

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt                     

Work Schedule:  Set 8 Hour Shift (Monday-Friday)

Amounts of Travel Required:  None

 

POSITION SUMMARY:  The Audiology Technician is responsible for performing routine clinical and administrative duties for the Audiology Department. 

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs audiometric testing ordered by the provider.
  • Sets up equipment and readies room for testing.
  • Cleans and helps maintain testing equipment.
  • Assists Audiologists as needed in clinic.
  • Maintains patient records.
  • Provides patients with basic hearing care information.
  • Performs in-house maintenance and routine repairs on hearing aids. 
  • Packages and ships hearing aids for outsourced repairs.
  • Responsible for tracking and ordering supplies as needed by the Audiology Department.
  • Answers phones.
  • Performs other related clinical duties as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education:  High School Diploma or Equivalent is required.  Associates or Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.

 

Experience:  Three to five years experience in a medical clinic.  Prefer experience working with Audiologists and/or performing audiograms.

 

Certificates & Licenses:  Certification in audiometric testing is preferred.  Certificate must be obtained upon hire.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 

  • Language – Ability to verbally communicate and understand details and instructions.

 

  • Mathematical – Can perform basic mathematical calculations.

 

  • Technical Aptitude – Comprehend medical topics and knowledge of specialized audiology equipment.

 

  • Mental/Reasoning – Ability to exercise sound judgment, accurately take and record patient information, and assist with exams while coordinating other services.                                                                

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Audiology Technicians must possess gross coordination and dexterity sufficient to perform patient care duties as required.  The employee is frequently required to bend and stoop as well as to stand and walk.   Most procedures require that the Audiology Technician have the ability to hear and see well for the accurate completion of tasks.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Working conditions are usually pleasant with the primary work environment being conducted in air-conditioned, well lighted exam rooms and office space.  The work environment may include exposure to hazardous material including bodily fluids and cleaning reagents.  Given these conditions employees are required to wear protective garments and must strictly adhere to safety policies.

The Audiology Technician position requires the employee to work with other members of staff to coordinate patient care. It is essential that the Audiology Technician take instruction well and interact with other employees in a positive manner to fulfill the duties of the job.
