20th anniversary of the Scott Haug Hill Country Audiology Retreat announced

Twenty years ago there were very different alternatives for audiologists and hearing instrument specialists for obtaining continuing education hours and for the exchange of ideas with colleagues around the state of Texas. These were only two of the reasons for the first Audiology Hill Country Retreat that was held in Wimberley. As Dr. Patricia Cole voiced during her dedication at our first retreat in 1985, “The quality of the professional presentations and the format and setting of the First Annual Scott Haug Audiology Retreat were chosen to reflect Scott's commitment both to professional excellence and to find this an experience that you want to repeat and will return each year, bringing your colleagues with you…I hope that you will join us in dedicating this and future Scott Haug Audiology Retreats to the celebration of the professional and personal enhancement we gained through knowing Scott.”

Our goal was to hold a meeting that incorporated relevant and timely topics to enhance our professional service, to provide an atmosphere where we could socialize with other attendees and discover new friends, and to enjoy the Texas Hill Country through sports and team building activities. This goal encompassed some of the many attributes and aspirations of our very good friend, Scott Haug.

Since the beginning, the Scott Haug Audiology Hill Country Retreat has proven that those goals have been met; and while there has been some growth and change along the way, the format and direction have proven to be successful in bringing information and camaraderie to our industry.

We are pleased to announce that we have reached the milestone of the 20th anniversary of the Scott Haug Hill Country Audiology Retreat. This year we are privileged to be joined by Todd Ricketts, Ph.D, “Adrift in a sea of product specific terms: What can I really expect from DSP”; Marlene Bevan, Ph.D., “Creating a marketplace for tomorrow’s consumers”; Carol Flexer, Ph.D., “Using technology to enhance listening, language, and literacy in the classroom: That’s Our Job!” and Steven Smith, Au.D., “Diagnostic/Innovative Audiology”. This conference is more than an occasion to obtain CEU’s. It represents the wonderful opportunities that arise when learning and socializing with our colleagues are combined in a relaxed, hill country atmosphere.

We, the Scott Haug Foundation Board and Members, extend a warm welcome to each of you to attend the 20th anniversary retreat this year, October 7th – 10th. More information can be obtained by visiting our Website at www.scotthaug.org. Join us for an exciting, practical and current educational program with activities that remind us that we are much more than hearing health care professionals, but people who enjoy the best things in life.
