MicroLink - 10 Years of Amazing Innovation

Share:
Phonak celebrates over a decade of experience in FM systems

Murten, Switzerland (October, 2006) — At the 2006 EUHA Congress, Phonak celebrates the 10th anniversary of MicroLink at a special Phonak Wireless Systems booth. The launch of MicroLink in 1996 was a milestone in the history of hearing health care technology. During the last decade, Phonak has offered many new wireless products and services. Hundreds of thousands of patients have benefited from wireless "links" to their teachers, colleagues or loved ones. Wireless technology is the best approach to improve speech understanding in noise, which is the number one desire of adult hearing instrument users.

Having been active for more than 10 years in the field of miniaturized FM systems, Phonak has accumulated an impressive amount of experience in this field, which remains largely unmatched in the hearing health care industry. Phonak offers a wide choice of transmitters and receivers to meet the demands of different hearing impaired clients - children and adults. Fitting wireless products is getting more and more standard practice in hearing health care. It
is Phonak's clear mission to share its knowledge and experience with hearing care professionals. Dedicated phone support, fast and regular access to local FM experts, FM- seminars, preventive maintenance programs and fast repair services are offered in many countries.

ZoomLink: new FM transmitter from Phonak

ZoomLink is a new high-quality entry-level FM transmitter from Phonak. The product features three different microphone modes: Omni, Zoom and SuperZoom2 for an optimal reception angle in all listening situations. It is easy to use and compatible with all Phonak receivers. ZoomLink will be available worldwide approximately November 2006.

MyLink: new affordable wireless receiver for custom products

A new invention by Phonak, MyLink, makes wireless communication possible for many hearing instrument users, who so far could not benefit from this technology. MyLink offers an outstanding entry level wireless solution because one MyLink can serve two hearing instruments. MyLink is an FM receiver with neck-loop which allows to wear it visibly around the neck, or completely invisible under clothing. It can be used with any hearing instrument that has a T-coil and it is compatible with different transmitters that Phonak offers.

EduLink: the wireless solution for unilateral hearing loss

Children with unilateral hearing loss need more than a yearly hearing check and preferential seating in the classroom. At least 35% of them fail one grade or more. Children with unilateral loss suffer from poor speech understanding in classroom situations, and only a personal FM system can provide the required SNR for optimal learning. EduLink from Phonak is an inconspicuous FM receiver in a trendy design, giving children a direct wireless link to the teacher. EduLink provides the required SNR, while the open fit guarantees full audibility of their own voice and of children closeby.

Scientific field studies and clinical experience from around the world has shown that EduLink
is well accepted by children and provides them optimal listening conditions for learning.

FM pioneers

Recent studies have shown that user satisfaction with hearing instruments is high, but also that 95 % of adult hearing instrument users want even better speech recognition in noise. It is widely accepted that wireless transmission of the desired signal to the ear is the best technology to accomplish just that.

The Internet has become one of the most important platforms for information exchange for FM fitting experts, but also for those who are less familiar with this technology and need basic help support. The eSchoolDesk www.eschooldesk.com, the FM-Configurator www.phonak.com/fm_configurator and the FM compatibility guide www.phonak.com/mlx are consulted thousands of times every month.

Phonak has, in its pioneering role, carried out or sponsored numerous scientific
studies on the effectiveness of different FM systems. The outcomes of these studies are published and presented at national and international conferences. The 2003 ACCESS Conference in Chicago, sponsored by Phonak, was the first international FM conference.
