This course will provide an overview of the materials and styles of earmolds available from our ear mold lab. We will discuss what materials and styles are recommended for models and various hearing losses.
Learning Outcomes
- Attendees will be able to list at least two types of soft material available
- Attendees will be able to describe the difference between an RIC open and occluded custom ear mold
- Attendees will be able to define the difference between a parallel vent, a diagonal vent and an external vent
- Attendees will be able to tell what material would be recommended for flabby vs hard ear texture
- Attendees will be able to define what ear mold parameters impact body, presence and brilliance of sound

Lois Benson is an audiologist with over 20 years of experience in both the clinical and manufacturing settings. As a clinical audiologist, Lois’ focus was on hearing assessments of children and adults, amplification selection and aural rehabilitation. In manufacturing, her experience includes managing customer service and technical support departments, product development and software evaluation. Lois has presented at state, national and international professional association meetings and is an approved instructor for NIHIS and AAA. Lois is currently Manager of Education and Training for MicroTech Hearing.
