Recent research by Kochkin (2010) indicates that consumer satisfaction with hearing aids remains at approximately 50%. Hearing instruments certainly represent a vital component in the aural rehabilitation process, however, these devices should not necessarily serve as the end points in that process for every patient. Both hearing instrument and cochlear implant wearers may benefit from new products recently made available in the area of Hearing Assistance Technology (HAT). The purpose of this course is to provide an overview of new HAT products designed to interface with hearing instruments and cochlear implants.
Learning Outcomes
- Participants will be able to identify two (2) cell phone solutions for hearing instrument and cochlear implant populations
- Participants will be able to outline two (2) telephone options for hearing instrument wearers, specifically experiencing difficulty in the business environment (i.e. PBX system compatibility)
- Participants will be able to describe the function of at least one (1) personal listening system that may interface with the hearing instrument and/or cochlear implant's telecoil
