VNG Testing Basics

1. The patient should stop taking tranquilizers, sedatives, and/or vestibular suppressants at least 24 hours before the VNG test.

2. With VNG testing, the goggles correct for disconjugate eye movements.
|
||
|
3. For all oculomotor tests, you should instruct the patient to keep the head still and only move the eyes to follow the target.
|
||
|
4. You should rarely use the default horizontal calibration.
|
||
|
5. In the positional tests, the criterion for abnormality is the presence of nystagmus that is greater than 6 degrees per second in any one head position.
