Question

I've noticed some listing services (like Dex) often occupy all of the highest ranking spots in an online search. How can organic listings "cut through" those listings to rise above them?

Answer

Thanks for the question. If the Dex listing is a paid search, then you simply need to outbid them to get a higher paid ranking. If it is an organic listing then you'll need to use search engine optimization (SEO) techniques that involve the way your site is coded, the content on your Web site and links from other Web sites. There is no quick fix for getting good search engine rankings, but it is something you have to work on over time.

I would recommend the following resources to help you market your hearing care practice on the Web, including SEO:

  1. My recorded course on AudiologyOnline, Convert and Connect: Making the Web Work for Your Practice, has general information about SEO: www.audiologyonline.com/ceus/recordedcoursedetails.asp?class_id=13556

  2. The Dummies book, Search Engine Optimization For Dummies, is now in a 3rd edition for 2008 and gives a great overview of SEO. www.amazon.com/Search-Engine-Optimization-Dummies-Computer/dp/0470262702

  3. Also, if you download my eBook at www.healthyhearing.com/websites/ I have some more information on search engine optimization.
I hope this helps!
