Question

Is the SeboTek PAC device new?

Answer

The PAC was officially introduced to the U.S. market in April 2003. SeboTek made it available on a limited basis prior to that. Despite the relatively short time on the market, the product has an extensive developmental history. To date, six patents for the PAC technology have been awarded or applied for.

The fundamental PAC design, separating the microphone from the receiver, is an innovative concept that is not entirely new . In fact, there were previous attempts to market similar, yet different devices. SeboTek perfected the design with interchangeable speaker links, multiple ear tips, deep canal capability, a programmable t-coil, programmable directional microphones, multiple memories and a reduced potential for feedback.

As most hearing care professionals know, the functional capabilities of individuals with hearing loss are defined by more than the audiogram. Many of these functional capabilities fall under the rubric, auditory wellness. This podcast will be a discussion between Brian Taylor of Signia and his guest, Barbara Weinstein, professor of audiology at City University of New York. They will outline the concept of auditory wellness, how it can be measured clinically and how properly fitted hearing aids have the potential to improve auditory wellness.
