What is MAESTRO 11, and what are its key features for clinicians and patients?

August 11, 2025

Question

What is MAESTRO 11, and what are its key features for clinicians and patients?

Answer

MAESTRO 11 is the newest fitting software for MED-EL cochlear implant systems. It is designed to provide both in-clinic and remote care, making it a versatile tool for audiologists. One of its standout features is Remote Care, which allows clinicians to request data from a patient's device and remotely adjust fitting maps for the SONNET 3 and SONNET 3 EAS audio processors. This means that patients who are doing well or only need routine implant checks can avoid unnecessary trips to the clinic, freeing up appointment times for those who require more urgent in-person care.

Getting to Know MAESTRO 11

Beyond remote capabilities, MAESTRO 11 offers several other features to enhance the hearing experience. It uses anatomy-based fitting (ABF) tools and FineHearing sound coding to provide a listening experience that is closer to natural hearing. The software can automatically calculate an optimal distribution of electrode center frequencies across the full input frequency range (70Hz–8,500 Hz), aligning as closely as possible with the natural tonotopic map of the cochlea. MAESTRO 11 is also compatible with all current MED-EL multichannel cochlear implants and audio processors, and it supports bimodal fitting for patients who also use a hearing aid.

MED-EL offers various electrode lengths for the best individual fit for each CI recipient. We’ve taken the next step forward by using imaging to visualize where the electrode sits after implantation within a patient’s cochlea. This information is then used to individualize the recipient’s map based on the real location of each electrode contact, before proceeding with fitting as usual. For the first time, audiologists are now able to best match the frequency settings to the natural pitch information unique to each patient’s ear. This webinar reviews Anatomy-Based Fitting, which is easy to implement with a just a few clicks in the MAESTRO fitting software.
