The objective of the current study was to evaluate the efficacy of the Widex Sound Assist remote microphone when used with varying distances between the talker and remote microphone device. Understanding this distance effect could help Hearing Care Professionals instruct their patients adequately so the patients receive the most benefit from using remote microphone technology.

VP Clinical Research, Widex
Francis Kuk, Ph.D. received his PhD in Audiology from the University of Iowa in 1986. He has assumed staff and faculty positions at the University of Iowa and University of Illinois-Chicago respectively. He is currently the VP of Clinical Research at Widex. He has written and presented extensively in the area of hearing aid technology and fittings. He is the editorial consultant for various professional journals. He was on the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Audiology (AAA) and the current president of the American Auditory Society (AAS).
Petri Korhonen received his M.Sc. (Tech) degree in electrical engineering from Helsinki University of Technology (Aalto University). He worked as a researcher in the Laboratory of Acoustic and Audio Signal Processing at Helsinki University of Technology from 2004 to 2006. In 2006 he joined ORCA-USA (Office of Research in Clinical Amplification), a clinical research facility of WS Audiology, where he is currently a Senior Research Scientist.
Christopher Slugocki, Ph.D. (Psychology, Neuroscience & Behavior, McMaster University) is a Research Scientist at ORCA-USA (Office of Research in Clinical Amplification), a clinical research facility of WS Audiology. Presently, his work uses psychophysics and electrophysiology to explore how the human auditory system processes sounds in adverse listening conditions.
Heidi Peeters, M.A. received her Master’s degree in Audiology at the University of Illinois – Urbana-Champaign. She works as a part-time research audiologist at ORCA-USA with primary responsibilities in study coordination, data collection and data reduction.
