KC Hearing Center — 4th Year Audiology Extern (Kansas City Area | Office location TBD)
Position: Audiology Extern
Location: Independence, Missouri
Status: Full-Time
Anticipated Term: Start May/June 2027; end 12 months later (May/June 2028)
Stipend/Benefits: $35,000 annual stipend, state licensure application, paid holidays & 10 days paid time off (PTO)
Position Summary:
Audiology 4th year extern will be responsible for performing audiology testing and hearing aid services as directed by the program director. Diagnostic testing includes pure tone air and bone conduction, impedance audiometry, sound field testing, speech reception and speech discrimination testing, and speech in noise testing. The extern will also gain comprehensive experience in hearing aid services including technology consultations, hearing aid fittings, real-ear verification, programming and adjustments, troubleshooting, in-house cleanings, and minor repairs. The role supports the extern’s development of both diagnostic and rehabilitative audiology skills in a patient-centered environment.
What You’ll Do:
- Provide patient-centered audiologic care under supervision, from intake to counseling and follow-up.
- Perform comprehensive diagnostics and hearing aid services as directed by the program director.
- Conduct hearing aid consultations to recommend appropriate technology based on patient needs.
- Complete hearing aid fittings, verification measures, and programming to optimize patient outcomes.
- Provide ongoing support for hearing aid users including adjustments, counseling, in-house cleanings, and repairs.
- Document accurately and timely in the clinic’s EHR; coordinate care with the clinical team.
- Participate in staff meetings, in-services, and quality-improvement initiatives.
- Support additional clinic needs as assigned (supplies, equipment maintenance, scheduling coordination).
Requirements:
- Completion of 2–3 years at an accredited Doctor of Audiology program, depending on the length of the program.
- Be willing to obtain temporary license through state of Missouri and/or Kansas, depending on clinic location assignment. Licensure is covered by the practice.
