SOMERSET, NJ July 13 – Graduate students in audiology participating in the 2020 Oticon Audiology Summer Camp gained real-life insight into the increasing importance of connectivity in hearing healthcare and in the new normal created by the COVID outbreak. For the first time in 23 years, the Oticon Audiology Summer Camp hosted future professionals virtually in a series of online presentations led by an expert team of Oticon audiologists, researchers and hearing industry veterans. The annual professional development event is designed to supplement and complement students’ education with relevant, practical professional world knowledge and insights.

“This year’s Oticon Audiology Summer Camp was unique in its format but no different in its focus on helping students successfully transition to a career in audiology in the evolving world of hearing healthcare,” said Don Schum, PhD, Vice President of Audiology for Oticon, Inc. who developed the US summer camp program. “While COVID-related travel and health restrictions prevented students from traveling to Keystone, Colorado, our traditional summer camp location, more than 125 students representing a cross-section of US universities participated in this year’s online event. We are pleased that so many chose to join us for what we hope will be the first of many Oticon-sponsored professional knowledge-sharing events throughout their careers.”

A series of in-depth presentations provided students with professional perspectives and insights on the future of connected hearing care and the special needs of older patients. Students also received practical advice on beginning a career in hearing healthcare. For students or others unable to join the virtual summer camp, Oticon offers the presentations online at no cost. Registration is required.
