Applications Being Accepted for Second Annual Graeme Clark Cochlear Scholarship

Share:

DENVER - February 2003 - Cochlear Americas announced today that it is now accepting applications for its second annual Graeme Clark Cochlear Scholarship. The Graeme Clark Cochlear Scholarship, an award open to Cochlear Nucleus® implant recipients, is intended to provide three college age students with up to four years of tuition assistance.

The Graeme Clark Cochlear Scholarship Foundation was established in 2002 in honor of Professor Graeme Clark, Department of Otolaryngology at the University of Melbourne, for his lifelong commitment to finding a solution for the hearing impaired and his pioneering work in the field of cochlear implant technology. Professor Clark invented the world's first multichannel cochlear implant.

Chaired by former Miss America, Heather Whitestone McCallum, a Cochlear Nucleus® recipient herself, and awarded by Cochlear, the Graeme Clark Cochlear Scholarship consists of financial assistance towards a college degree at an accredited university. The award, which is presented to three students annually, is paid in yearly installments upon the completion of each year of study. Each award is in the amount of $3,000 per year for a maximum of four years. Scholarships are awarded by a panel of judges on the basis of academic achievement and a demonstrated commitment to the Cochlear ideals of leadership and humanity.

Innoventions at Epcot® at the Walt Disney World® Resort in Lake Buena Vista, FL, served as an exciting location to inaugurate the Graeme Clark Cochlear Scholarship for the 2002 award recipients this past January.
