ASHA Now Accepting Applications for ARTA

ASHA is offering audiology-hearing science research travel awards for the 2009 ASHA Convention in order to highlight the research activities of "budding" scientists in audiology and hearing science, and encourage careers in science and research. The 2009 ASHA Convention will be held from November 19-21, 2009 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

ARTA Objectives

The ARTA is a mechanism to provide students an opportunity to 1) learn more about current research in audiology and hearing science;2) network with seasoned professionals currently conducting research in the area of audiology and hearing science;and 3) learn more about academic-research careers in audiology and hearing science.

ARTA Eligibility

Audiology or hearing science students (at the time of application) in the following areas of study are eligible to apply:

  • Clinical doctoral degree program (e.g., AuD)

  • Attending an entry-level clinical doctoral program accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA)

  • Attending a post-entry-level clinical doctoral degree program Research doctoral degree program (e.g., PhD) in audiology or hearing science

  • Postdoctoral fellowship program in audiology or hearing science
ARTA Stipend and Responsibilities

Up to 10 awardees will each receive a stipend of at least $300.00 and complimentary registration for the ASHA Convention.

Each award recipient will be expected to attend:

  • Audiology Keynote Presentations

  • New Investigator Roundtable Lunchtime Session

  • Pathways to Research Funding Roundtable Lunchtime Session

  • Audiology Networking Reception

  • Audiology Program Chair Reception

  • Other Convention Sessions of Interest

All applications must be submitted electronically no later than 11:59 p.m. ET on June 10, 2009. The award notification will take place in August 2009.
