Washington, D.C.: American Cochlear Implant Alliance is partnering with Lexi Finigan, a CI recipient and voice of Cece in the El Deafo Apple TV series. The new webinar series aims to connect teenagers with hearing loss for support, advice, discussion, and community.
Lexi received bilateral cochlear implants when she was three years old after being adopted from China. With the support of her family and medical professionals, she has thrived in academic and extracurricular settings. Now entering her junior year of high school, Lexi hopes to give back to the cochlear implant community by helping other teenagers with hearing loss navigate their lives during their teen years. Lexi introduced Cochlear Implant Connections for Teens at the CI2025 Boston conference last month.
Teens often note that they don’t know anyone else with a cochlear implant. Support groups and online communities provide a space for sharing experiences and ACI Alliance is pleased to partner with Lexi to provide such opportunities.
The first webinar in the series is Back to School: Talking to Teachers About Hearing Loss to be held Tuesday, August 12th at 7–8 PM ET. The session will focus on talking to teachers about hearing loss and classroom accommodations. Lexi will share a presentation she created for her middle school teachers and she will discuss how she approached these conversations in high school. There will be ample time for discussion. Participants will receive a survey to help plan future topics.
