International Society of Audiology and the Holland Foundation Announce Scholarship Winners

The Executive Committee of the International Society of Audiology (ISA) and the A. Charles Holland Foundation is pleased to announce the second biennial scholarship winners. Four students have been awarded $1000.00 scholarships to attend the XXVIIIth International Congress of Audiology to be held September 3-7, 2006 in Innsbruck, Austria. The scholars were selected by the ISA Scientific Committee based on mentor recommendations and the merit of their research. Students will attend and present their research at the Congress.

Eight applications were received, four from the USA, two from Hong Kong, and one each from the UK and Mexico. Stig Arlinger, Chairman of the ISA Scientific Committee announced the following students as the 2006 Scholarship winners:

Julie Martinez Verhoff, USA. She is a doctoral student at Univ of Texas, Dallas, expecting AuD in 2006 and PhD in 2008. Thesis topic concerns CI-users and effect on speech recognition skills related to d-amphetamine enhancement during training.

Vicky W Zhang, Hong Kong, China. She is from mainland China, presently working for a masters degree to be completed in 2006, planning to continue for a PhD, graduating in 2009. Her research concerns alternative methods in neonatal screening, combining TEOAE and Tone-Burst OAE.

Srikanta K Mishra, Southampton, UK. He is a PhD-student expecting to graduate in 2008. His field of research is the effect of contralateral suppression on DPOAE.

Alma Janeth Moreno Aguirre, Cuernavaca, Mexico. She is a PhD-student expecting to graduate in 2009. She is a physician in her basic training. Her research concerns auditory function in infants with perinatal brain injury.
