July 6, 2026 – (DURHAM, NC) – MED-EL US today announced the consumer availability of its new rechargeable batteries, Standard Pro and Micro Pro, compatible with both SONNET 2 and SONNET 3 audio processors. Offering an extended battery life, these upgraded rechargeable batteries improve usability and flexibility essential to everyday hearing.
The Standard Pro battery delivers up to 23 hours of hearing on a single charge, while the Micro Pro offers up to 12 hours. Both batteries feature a simplified two-part design, fast charging in up to three hours, and support over 1,100 charging cycles. Charging is possible while attached to the processor or separately, with magnetic alignment and LED indicators on the charger for ease of use.
These runtimes are supported across MED‑EL implants dating back to 1994, allowing many existing users to benefit from the upgrade without needing a new implant. Backward compatibility with SONNET 2 also ensures a seamless transition for current users.
"The peace of mind from having a full day of battery life to support all of SONNET 3’s features have been fantastic,” said MED-EL recipient, Scott Murray. “I now have the freedom to wear either the RONDO 3 or the SONNET 3 without giving any thought to spare batteries.”
The new battery kits include child-safe battery covers for added security and easy USB-C charging with the battery on or off the processor, magnetic alignment, and an LED status light. The packaging has also been intentionally designed to be compact and eco-friendly, reducing plastic waste.
Consumers can purchase the new Standard Pro and Micro Pro batteries through the myMED-EL online shop or MED-EL.
