Somerset, NJ May 20 - Oticon has been honored with the 2004 Frost & Sullivan Excellence in Technology Award. The annual award is bestowed upon the company for the development and introduction of Oticon Syncro, a "novel, next generation hearing aid" that "is expected to bring significant contributions to the industry in terms of adoption, change and competitive posture."

"Oticon is pleased to be recognized by Frost & Sullivan as a technology leader," stated Mikael Worning, President, Oticon, Inc. "For over 100 years, Oticon has been a pioneer in developing innovative, advanced technologies to benefit people with hearing loss. To gain international recognition for Syncro just one month after its introduction confirms our belief that Syncro truly is 'a new breed of hearing aid.'"

Syncro employs a range of new, innovative directionality, noise management and compression systems and uses a unique application of Artificial Intelligence to manage the systems' complex interaction. The instrument makes as many as 17,000 intelligent decisions per second, simultaneously comparing the actual outcomes of particular feature combinations and choosing the specific combination that provides the optimal voice-to-noise ratio at any given moment.

Frost & Sullivan, a global leader in growth consulting, annually presents awards to top companies in a variety of regional and global markets. A host of critical marketing factors such as leadership, strategy, service, innovation, integration and development are recognized. Frost & Sullivan praised Syncro's "potential to redefine the way the market and end-users employ hearing aids: it shifts the emphasis from the features of the hearing aid to their benefits." The award cited Oticon's "broad commitment to technological innovation that has lead to the introduction of a range of new technologies and products that already have brought perceptible improvements to the quality of life of their users."
