Pediatric Vestibular Care: Advancing Assessment with Remote-Camera vHIT

Florida, USA (April 2026) - Children with hearing loss face a significantly higher risk of vestibular dysfunction. However, early identification and intervention can dramatically improve outcomes for motor development, stability, and overall quality of life.

Clinical insights from Dr. Kristen Janky

To address this critical need, Kristen Janky, AuD, PhD, CCC-A, Lead Audiologist of Vestibular Clinical Services and Director of the Vestibular and Balance Research Laboratory at Boys Town National Research Hospital, recently hosted a clinical webinar exploring:

  • The necessity of assessment - Why pediatric vestibular screening is essential.
  • Remote vHIT technology - How remote cameras capture data without the need for goggles and why it is uniquely suited to infants and young children.
  • Clinical integration - Where these tests fit within comprehensive pediatric batteries.
  • Case interpretation - How to analyze results with confidence.
  • Real-world case studies - including infants and children with limited test tolerance.

Unlike traditional goggle-based systems, remote-camera vHIT allows clinicians to obtain reliable, ear-specific data without headgear. By minimizing distress and maximizing compliance, this technology is invaluable for infants, toddlers, and difficult-to-test populations.

Inventis SYNAPSYS vHIT in action

The video Head Impulse Test (vHIT) is a vital tool for pediatric assessment. Inventis advances this technology with its remote-camera SYNAPSYS vHIT, designed to deliver accurate data even when patient cooperation is minimal.

See the system in action through our clinical case videos:

  • Emma, 7 months old - Watch a complete assessment performed while she sits comfortably in her mother’s arms.
  • Luca, 4 years old - Observe smooth, accurate testing and a full semicircular canal evaluation in an active preschooler with rapid setup.

Both cases demonstrate how Inventis SYNAPSYS vHIT eliminates the limitations of traditional goggles. The remote camera captures high-quality data without physical contact or tight straps, ensuring reliable results.
