RNID is delighted to have received a major gift to a UK charity from the late Hollywood actor Paul Newman's Foundation, which will be used to support the charity's pioneering Hear to Help project in North Wales.

The $10,000 (£6,204) plus donation will help RNID's Hear to Help service train volunteers to provide support and friendship to new hearing aid users in their local community, including, if requested, visits to the user's home.

The Co-operative nominated their charity of the year, RNID for the grant, which was awarded from Newman's Own Foundation which contributes all net profits and royalties earned from the sale of Newman's Own salad dressings and marinades.

John Trampleasure, Executive Director of Fundraising, RNID says: "We are delighted to receive this donation from the Newman Foundation, which is a fantastic endorsement of our work creating a world where deafness or hearing loss do not limit or determine opportunity and where people value their hearing."

The Co-operative Group's Chief Executive Peter Marks, says: "We chose RNID as our charity of the year because of the impact it has shown on the communities we serve across the UK. We are delighted to be successful with our nomination of this worthwhile charity, and hope that the money donated will help RNID support deaf and hard of hearing people across the UK''
