Siemens Hearing Celebrates 10th Annual National Women's Health Week

Recommends Four Tips for Women's Hearing Loss Prevention

Siemens Hearing Instruments, Inc. (SHI) celebrates the 10th Annual National Women's Health Week, a weeklong observance from May 10 - 16, 2009. Coordinated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office on Women's Health (OWH), Women's Health Week is a nationwide initiative that encourages women to take steps to live a longer, healthier, happier life.

In observance of the event, Siemens Hearing recommends the following four tips for hearing loss prevention in women:

  • Wear hearing protection in noisy environments, such as concerts and construction areas.

  • When wearing headphones or earbuds, keep the sound low enough so that only you - and no one around you - can hear it.

  • Have your hearing checked if your friends and family comment that you are talking louder or have the television and radio volume turned too loud.

  • Have your hearing tested if you hear ringing in your ears or if you notice any change in your hearing.
"Hearing loss is generally gradual and painless, and it is important to seek a solution as soon as possible," said Dr. Tom Powers, Vice President of Audiology and Compliance at Siemens Hearing. "We are happy to observe Women's Health Week and to encourage all women to protect their hearing and watch for signs of hearing loss."

Siemens Hearing Instruments is committed to educating consumers about hearing loss, from the signs of a hearing loss to the treatment available. Siemens seeks to make hearing instrument wearers feel better - about themselves and their lives - with hearing instruments.

One way the company has done that is through hearing loss awareness programs and by incorporating lifestyle with technology in the development of hearing instruments that can be fitted not only for a patient's ears, but for the person between them. This philosophy has proven to be both consumer-friendly and successful, for one out of every three hearing instruments worn in the world today is made by Siemens.
