Siemens Hearing Solutions Develops TRIANO SP BTE

PISCATAWAY, New Jersey, September 25, 2002 - Siemens has developed the first digital super power hearing system using the adaptive TwinMicTM directional microphone system. At 81 dB, TRIANO™ SP BTE was designed for individuals with severe to profound hearing loss. With the adaptive TwinMic system, the user has the option of manually activating the directional effect or relying on an automatic mode that automatically transitions between directional and omni-directional modes according to the situation. It analyzes the hearing situation in a fraction of a second, and continuously adapts the directional effect without any noticeable transitions.

The TRIANO SP also filters out noise coming from different directions quickly and efficiently. Its high adaptation speed even makes it possible to reduce the effects of multiple alternating background noises from different directions. The directional microphone system targets the sounds that are in front of the user.

TRIANO SP is part of the TRIANO family of hearing solutions. TRIANO is a hearing system that focuses on patient comfort by offering a highly sophisticated algorithm that analyzes the environment and automatically makes the appropriate signal processing changes.

The highlight of this intuitive digital technology is the Speech Comfort System™. The Speech Comfort System provides increased comfort in many listening situations. All TRIANO hearing instruments feature Speech Comfort System processing, exclusive to TRIANO. The System contains three components: Automatic Situation Detection, Signal Optimization and Automatic Directional Microphone.

1. With the Automatic Situation Detection, the system is able to decide whether the listening situation is speech, speech in noise, noise alone, or wind noise. Then it automatically applies appropriate modifications for that environment in real-time.

2. The Signal Optimization uncovers speech in background noise by employing a Fast Signal Optimizer (a high resolution, 16-channel noise reduction system) to provide even better performance in noisy situations. The Signal Optimization also consists of: Speech Sensitive Processing, Automatic Directionality, Wind Noise Reduction, Feedback Suppression, and Adaptive Telecoil (T-coil).

3. With the Automatic Directional Microphone, TRIANO smoothly transitions between directional and omnidirectional modes in appropriate situations. The transition occurs smoothly and automatically without creating noise or other artifacts.

Even though TRIANO offers many advanced signal processing and directional capabilities in one product, TRIANO is easy to fit. This is now possible with one simple interface screen for reduction of fitting complexity. The new simple interface screen clearly displays all the parameters and allows Hearing Care Professionals to make adjustments to TRIANO's programmable parameters and features quickly and easily.
