Plymouth, Minn. - Sonus, the largest professional hearing-care network in North America, announced today that it is launching a college scholarship program for third- and fourth-year doctoral students in audiology. Administered in partnership with Scholarship America, the initiative will help up to eight students per year finance their education with a $2,500 award each.

"The final years of the Au.D. program are critical for students, most of whom are balancing their academic demands with work and family," said Michele Fusco, senior vice president of professional development at Amplifon USA, the parent company of Sonus. "By offering scholarships to up-and-coming audiologists, Sonus is helping to ensure that the best and brightest students will have the financial support necessary to complete their programs and make an immediate impact in the hearing-health industry upon graduation."

To be eligible, applicants must be currently enrolled in a full-time academic program as a third- or fourth-year Au.D. student and attend a qualified university in the United States or Canada. A list of approved universities is available on the Sonus College Scholarship Program Web site at www.sms.scholarshipamerica.org/sonus. Applications, which can also be downloaded from the Web site, must be submitted to Scholarship America along with a current, complete transcript by March 1, 2007.

Scholarship recipients will be selected on the basis of academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, honors, work experience, statement of goals and aspirations, unusual personal or family circumstances, and an outside appraisal. Financial need will not be considered. Recipients will be notified by late April.
