Starkey Laboratories, Inc. Promotes Brent Edwards to Vice President of Research

Eden Prairie, Minn. - Starkey Laboratories, Inc., one of the world's leading hearing technology companies, today announced the appointment of Dr. Brent Edwards to the position of Vice President of Research.

Edwards joined Starkey in 2004 as its Executive Director of the Starkey Hearing Research Center in Berkeley (SHRC). SHRC was created to conduct fundamental research on perception by the hearing impaired and on new ideas for hearing aid technology. Dr. Edwards has been a research leader in the hearing aid industry since 1995 focusing on several areas of hearing research, including the application of signal processing to audiological needs and cognition as it relates to hearing. In addition to his work at SHRC, Dr. Edwards speaks worldwide on hearing science and hearing aid research.

Brent has effectively guided the development of our intellectual property portfolio providing security for our future inventions and innovations of products," said Jerry Ruzicka, Starkey President. "Brent has an ideal background for his expanded role where he will be responsible for research throughout the organization."

Edwards completed his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering at the University of Michigan in 1992 where he investigated the application of signal processing techniques to the human auditory system. He followed this with a postdoctoral fellowship in Psychology at the University of Minnesota where he conducted psychoacoustic research and taught in the University's Department of Communication Disorders.
