Westone "Earmold Roundup" a rip-snortin' success

The First Annual Westone Earmold Roundup, held August 13 in Colorado Springs, struck a balance between hands-on practical education and Western hospitality and fun for 20 hearing health care professionals from seven different states.

Audiologists and dispensers spent the day at Westone Laboratories'
headquarters for an intensive training and education session designed to benefit their practices, improve their techniques and enhance patient relationships. Topics covered included proper ear impression techniques; earmold modification; choosing the proper acoustic earmold and/or hearing protection device for specific applications; the anatomy of the human ear and how to use that knowledge to insure good-fitting earmolds for patients; and new technologies for better ear impressions and earmold fitting.

Participants got to try the latest tools for faster, more accurate ear
impressions, and tried their hand at earmold modification, actually drilling, grinding, and finishing earmolds. They toured Westone's laboratories and manufacturing facilities, following the creation of a single custom earmold from the time the impression is received at the lab until the finished product is shipped...resulting in, according to at least one Roundup guest, "a new appreciation of what happens in the process."

The focus shifted from education to entertainment as the group retired to the popular Flying W Ranch, situated in the foothills of the Rockies in the shadow of Pikes Peak, to indulge in a hearty chuckwagon dinner. The internationally renowned Flying W Wranglers provided music and Western entertainment under the stars, and a fine Colorado evening was topped off by a spectacular meteor shower (although Westone can't guarantee that will be on the schedule every year!).

The response from participants is reaffirming Westone's intent to make this an annual event at a nominal cost to attendees. One individual stated, "I learned more in one day than I've learned in three days at other presentations."
