Question

How Does WIDEX MOMENT™ Deliver a More Natural Sound?

Answer

As an industry, we don’t often talk about signal processing delay—the time it takes for a digital hearing aid to process incoming sound and output it through the receiver in the ear canal. For most non-Widex hearing aids, this delay is typically between 5 – 8 milliseconds. Not a long time, to be certain, but long enough that the output sound is out of phase with any natural sound that leaks into the ear canal through an open fitting. (Remember, up to 80% of all fittings these days are done with instant ear-tips)

When these two sound waves mix in the ear canal, the distortion pattern they produce looks like the teeth of a comb—hence the name for this phenomenon, the comb-filter effect. This interference causes the sound that many hearing aid wearers describe as unnatural, unpleasant, or simply “like a hearing aid.”

WIDEX MOMENT™ has shattered the industry standard for digital signal processing with the ultra-fast PureSound™ Pathway powered by ZeroDelay™ technology. Without compromising sound quality, WIDEX MOMENT™ processes the digital signal in 0.5 milliseconds—fast enough that comb-filter distortion doesn’t arise—delivering a more natural sound.

For patients, PureSound™ can help make acceptance of hearing aids quicker and easier and improve long-term satisfaction with sound quality. These benefits can increase patient satisfaction and reduce return rates.

In addition, WIDEX MOMENT™ offers TruAcoustics™ to provide a more customized, tailor-made fitting for patients of all hearing losses. TruAcoustics™ is developed from years of analytics and hundreds of tests to make sure WIDEX MOMENT provides intelligent and precise gain calculations based on individual patient needs – helping them to always hear their best.
