What is SCIF, and why could it matter for your hearing aids?
Answer
A Secure Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) is a specially designed room that protects sensitive conversations and data from being overheard or accessed. This type of facility is commonly used in government, technology, and other high-security environments. Phonak hearing aids can now be made SCIF compliant with the Virto I-R ITE . This option appears after it has been enabled in Phonak Target under Setup > Fitting session> Fitting. When the hearing care professional activates the “disable hands-free calls” setting the hearing aids will no longer transmit audio to a phone or external device, ensuring secure use within the facility. A report confirming SCIF compatibility can be printed from Phonak Target for the patient to provide to the facility.
