Dr. Schum offered some insight as to why some of the current verbiage we use in counseling baby boomers can be holding us back. For example, I often try to normalize hearing loss by talking about how it is often related to age, so patients realize it is a common experience and that they are not alone. But I've come to realize after this presentation by labeling it as age related, it can work against us in the long run.
