3. How are a District’s responsibilities different between cochlear implants & hearing aids? There are no differences; schools must maintain all parts of hearing aids and cochlear implants. Cochlear implants are not maintained by educational staff, as they are medically implantable devices. External pieces are to be maintained. Hearing aids and cochlear implants are not the responsibility of the schools in any way. The Speech Language Pathologist is responsible for hearing equipment.
4. What are the different educational audiology services models? All educational audiologists are employed by the school district in which they work. All educational audiologists are employed by the county in which they work. All educational audiologists are independent contractors. Educational audiologists may be individually employed as private contractor or personally by a district or the county.
