How to Upskill Your Staff and Maximize Efficiency
Audiology Online: What is the Technology Specialist Training Program?
Dr. Ricevuto: The Technology Specialist Training Program is part of the Phonak Practice Forward business growth and marketing services designed to provide tailored training and services to help our customers grow their business.
The program develops and upskills essential staff with additional technical knowledge and hearing aid troubleshooting skills to:
- Provide a patient-centered team approach to hearing healthcare
- Provide a great patient experience
- Increase accessibility and improve access so that patients receive more immediate care
- Increase office efficiency
- Increase the capacity for revenue
AudiologyOnline: Who is the program for?
Dr. Ricevuto: Designed to address the shortage of staffing voiced by our practitioners who are struggling to recruit and hire employees, this program is for any employee interested in learning more about audiology and technology. It is a great foundation of technical knowledge for anyone looking for internal advancement within the practice, ways to grow, develop, learn, and for those in positions like a patient care coordinator or front office staff. A number of practices involved in the pilot program reported that they would use this learning path to support and onboard all of their newly hired employees.
AudiologyOnline: What’s included in the program?
Dr. Ricevuto: The Technology Specialist Training Program is a fee-based program and includes access to 4 online, self-paced learning modules. Learning takes around 5-6 hours to complete. The program offers the option of connecting to a Phonak mentor, an in-house Audiologist who is available to answer questions and serve as the program facilitator. The course curriculum covers a wide range of learnings from anatomy of the ear, communication needs assessment, infection control, customer service and suggestions on how to best interact with patients, hearing aid information, device care tips, and information around Bluetooth®, connectivity, and apps. Following completion of the online portion, we offer an opportunity to participate in a hands-on workshop. This is a nice addition to the modules, locally led by the Phonak Audiology and Education team, and designed to ensure participants fully benefit from the information learned online.
