When a child is receiving intervention for auditory processing disorder (APD), how long would you wait to do post APD testing to check for outcomes?
Answer
My standard recommendation is for the child to return in 6 months to one year for follow up assessment. However, I recommend 6 months if I have concerns about the parents adhering to my recommendations for management. Progress above and beyond maturation should be clearly evident one year after the APD assessment. Progress should be documented on APD tests but also with more general criteria, such as academic performance or improved psychosocial status.
